Pattern: Urban DPM

The rounded DPM brush shapes, cut in grey, black and off-white. There is no green and no brown anywhere in it: the print is monochrome, with a strong dark-to-light spread that makes the blobs read clearly even at a distance.

DPM stands for Disruptive Pattern Material, the British term for the family of patterns issued from the late 1960s onwards, whose main variants are the four-colour woodland print and its desert versions, later superseded by Multi-Terrain Pattern. DPM has also been produced in a black, white and grey Urban DPM colourway, as well as in blue tones and in purple. Sources document that urban colourway as produced rather than as an officially issued British uniform, so this is best understood as the DPM shape family in an urban palette. Monochrome camouflage is the easiest camouflage to wear in a city, and on mesh the grey and black blobs give the shirt the look of a graphic tee rather than of field kit. It goes with black, white, denim and grey without effort.

The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
