The Sri Lankan cactus camouflage

The Sri Lankan cactus camouflage is the pattern most closely associated with the country, and it is a stripe pattern rather than a blotch pattern: bands of fine, parallel stripes run across the fabric, each band interrupted at short intervals by small spiny breaks. That banded, segmented structure is what gives the cactus pattern its name, and it is the reason cactus camo clothing does not look like the woodland, flecktarn or digital patterns that fill most of the market.

Documented examples of the pattern exist in both horizontal and vertical orientation, and because Sri Lankan cactus production was never standardised, the pattern also appears in a wide range of colourways, from the classic brown-and-green version to near-monochrome prints such as this one.

About the LTTE cactus camouflage

Cactus camouflage is associated with the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), which fought the Sri Lankan government from the mid-1970s until 2009. The best-known cactus colourway remains the classic one: brown and grass green bands over a khaki ground.

The Black Tigers colourway

This T-shirt carries the Black Tigers colourway: the same banded cactus structure, printed in charcoal and light grey instead of the classic brown and green. It is a muted, near-monochrome camo, which makes it straightforward to wear with black, grey or olive — a grey camo tee first, and a Sri Lankan one for anyone who knows the pattern.

The garment is a men’s crew-neck T-shirt in 100% cotton at 190 g/m², with a regular fit and a classic round neck. Thread colour is not customisable: black or white thread is selected automatically for each garment. The tee is made in nine sizes, XS to 5XL.

Cold wash, line dry, do not bleach, do not dry clean, iron at a maximum of 110 °C and do not use steam.
