Pattern: VNMC Tigerstripes

VNMC Tigerstripes sits on a pale sand-khaki ground worked over by dense horizontal striping in dark brown-black, the bands running in long, slightly stepped brushstrokes that never settle into a regular rhythm. Olive-green accents thread between the darker runs, softening the contrast and tying the striping back to the pale base. The tone is warm and earthy, heaviest with brown at the centre of the field and lighter where the sand ground shows through between the strokes.

Tiger stripe is the name of a group of camouflage patterns developed for close-range work in dense jungle by the South Vietnamese armed forces. The very first of them was a locally made copy of the French lizard pattern, produced for the Vietnamese Marine Corps from 1957. Later production is described in two named readings, a sparse version first produced in 1959 and a dense version first produced in 1968, the latter also called sea wave. The Marine Corps that gave the family its name was the Republic of Vietnam Marine Division, raised in 1954. Tiger stripe itself was never an official-issue item of the United States. MegaCamo labels this one the VNMC Tigerstripes, a house reading of the family rather than a claim to one named wartime print.

The warm brown-black striping reads strongly on a light sports mesh, where the open weave lets the pale ground breathe between the darker bands. On cloth this thin the pattern keeps its structure without turning muddy: the dense stripes hold an edge at a distance while the olive accents stop it going flat. The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
