About the pattern

Palmenmuster (“palm tree pattern”) is a German World War Two SS camouflage pattern built from palm-frond and crinkled shapes alongside scattered dots. It is a distinctive wartime German design, and Camopedia documents the variety of German camouflage patterns. This “Spring” render is the greener colourway of the Palmenmuster, using palm and foliage shapes in green and brown on a green ground. It is the more vegetal of the palm-pattern colourways.

The ground is a green, and over it sit palm-frond, crinkled and dot shapes in a darker green, a grey-green, a brown and scattered black accents. The shapes are organic and leaf-like, with the characteristic palm-frond and dot structure. The palette is green — bright green, grey-green, brown and dark accents — giving the pattern a leafy, vegetal look. The crinkled and palm shapes give it a distinct, textured appearance, quite unlike a simple woodland.

How it reads on the garment

Because the shapes are palm-fronds and the ground is green, this pattern prints with a leafy, organic feel. On the body the green ground sits behind the darker green, brown and grey-green palm shapes, giving the surface a crinkled, textured look. It reads as a green palm pattern, distinctive and characterful. The green ground sits reasonably against the light hood lining and collar, keeping the neckline tidy.
