Pattern: ARVN ERDL 04

The ground here is a mid-green, but it is not the ground that catches the eye first. Large blocks of pale khaki-sand do that, pale enough to read almost as open space, and they are drawn together by strong black-brown strokes that look like thick twigs laid over the print. The greens are pushed to the edges of the blocks, so what you notice from a distance is a khaki field crossed by dark lines. It is a drier, dustier reading than the green-led members of the family.

In the family’s own terms, this is the pull towards the highlands. The original colourway was green-dominant and suited to lush lowland country; the brown-dominant version, with light tan in place of the light green highlights, was the one considered right for the rocky, mountainous regions of Southeast Asia, and khaki-forward readings sit at that end of the scale. The South Vietnamese versions of the print are known to collectors under several names at once, among them ARVN leaf, Airborne leaf and BDQ Leaf, and the design keeps the same mid-brown and grass green organic shapes with black branches throughout. The numbering used here is MegaCamo’s own. MegaCamo labels this one the ARVN ERDL 04.

A khaki-forward print is the most versatile camouflage there is, and on light mesh it looks closer to a sand-toned graphic tee than to field kit. The pale blocks keep the shirt bright, the dark strokes keep it from washing out, and the result sits comfortably with sand, brown, olive, stone and off-white as well as with black. Good for warm-weather running, the gym, and everyday wear.

The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
