Pattern: Vietnam K07 Air Force

Blue, not jungle. A light blue ground carries the print, and over it sit shapes in navy blue and sand-tan, rounded and flowing rather than square, so nothing about it reads as pixels. The blues do the work while the tan keeps the pattern from turning cold, and its forms are soft-edged and moderate in contrast, giving the shirt a calm, airy surface. It is an unmistakably air-force reading: a blue field with sand accents, and none of the heavy green mass of the army woodland prints of the same pattern family.

The K07 is the woodland-style camouflage adopted by the Vietnam People’s Army in 2007, and it belongs to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; it has nothing to do with the earlier South Vietnamese forces. The full pattern is nicknamed lime woodland for its black, brown and green woodland shapes on a lime green base, and it is worn by all branches of service. The air-force variation is the one distinguished by a very pale blue background element, which is the register this shirt is printed in. The designation is written K07, officially Kiểu 07 or Type 07, without a hyphen, and the pattern has since been supplemented by the K17 family, introduced in 2017 to re-outfit the country’s army, navy, coast guard and air force. This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
