Pattern: ARVN ERDL 02

This is the green-led reading, and it is the sharpest of the set. A light sage ground opens the print up, mid-green blocks build the mass of it, and rust-brown patches add the one warm note that keeps the greens from going cold. The near-black leaf strokes are cut cleanly rather than blurred, so every branch and edge is defined, and it is the gap between the pale ground and those dark strokes that gives the print its snap. It reads as wet, high-summer jungle rather than as a muted field pattern.

Green-led is where the family started. The original colourway is green-dominant, built from large organic shapes in olive green and brown, black branches and light green leaf highlights, all printed in an interlocking four-colour lay-up. High-contrast readings of that kind are the ones usually described as lowland prints, suited to lush country. The United States Marine Corps adopted the green-dominant version as standard issue in South Vietnam in 1968, and the US Army later took it across Southeast Asia on a wide scale. South Vietnam’s own copy of the American design, ARVN ERDL, went to Airborne Regiments, Vietnamese Rangers and Marine units with the same colour scheme. The numbering used here is a MegaCamo catalogue convention, not a military designation. MegaCamo labels this one the ARVN ERDL 02.

Green camo is the easiest to wear in daylight, and on open mesh it stays lively instead of going flat. The print holds its definition at a few metres, so it looks like camouflage rather than noise, and the rust-brown accents give it enough warmth to sit with khaki, sand, denim and olive. It is a natural for outdoor training, running and the gym, and it carries a city outfit without looking like field kit.

The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
