Pattern: ARVN ERDL 06

Warm and dry, this is the family’s desert-leaning reading. A pale tan-sand ground fills the print, rust-brown terracotta shapes sit on it in broad soft masses, and dark brown strokes thread between them without ever turning black. The overall tone is dusty and low in contrast, closer to sun-bleached ground than to foliage, and the shapes stay large and rounded, so the surface reads as texture rather than as a graphic. It is the warmest and palest member of the set.

The family has travelled in this direction before. The brown-dominant scheme that followed the original ERDL put light tan where the first colourway had light green, and a later colourway produced between 1979 and 1981, known as transitional ERDL or the RDF pattern, shows how far the shapes can move while the design stays recognisable. ERDL itself, the Leaf pattern, was developed by the United States Army at its Engine Research & Development Laboratories in 1948, and South Vietnam had produced modified leaf designs of its own from late 1964, with the closer copy, ARVN ERDL, issued to Airborne Regiments, Vietnamese Rangers and Marine units. This numbered colourway is a MegaCamo naming convention. MegaCamo labels this one the ARVN ERDL 06.

On a light sports mesh this tan and terracotta reading lands somewhere between a desert print and a vintage-washed tee, which is what makes it easy to wear. The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
