The desert dark reading is muted rather than high-contrast. A pale sand ground carries grey-brown taupe blotches and a darker grey-olive, and the forms sit close in value, so the print settles into a soft, dusty surface without hard edges of light and dark. Even the darker tones stay grey rather than black, which keeps the whole shirt dry and washed-out in character instead of heavy.

The documented British desert family is Desert DPM, not DPM in a dark colourway. The first version was a four-colour brown-and-tan recolouring of the standard temperate pattern; it was replaced in 1990 by a two-colour light brown on sand version, and the official British desert patterns are catalogued as a first, second and third series, with no dark variant among them. Dark desert DPM pieces in circulation are recorded as custom-dyed or aftermarket stock rather than issue, and DPM is one of the most widely copied patterns in the world, with colourways running far beyond military palettes. Muted and dusty, this is the quiet member of the desert family, and a light mesh suits it: the fabric lets air through and keeps the pale sand ground from looking flat. The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
