Pattern: German WWII Splittertarn 41

This lightweight hooded tee is printed with Splittertarn – the German “splinter pattern” camouflage of the Second World War. Developed in the 1930s and issued to Wehrmacht troops, it takes its name from the sharp, angular splinters of colour that cut across the fabric, often with thin rain-like streaks added on top. The “41” refers to the 1941 variant of the pattern, one of the most widely issued versions.

The splinter look

By eye the pattern is a pale grey-beige ground broken by erratic, jagged shards of olive-green, brown and tan, with faint vertical or diagonal lines threading through them. The splinters are hard-edged and irregular rather than soft and rounded, so the whole surface reads as a fragmented, almost geographical pattern – very different from the smooth blobs of woodland camo or the round dots of flecktarn.

How it reads on this tee

Because the shapes are angular and broken, the pattern has a lively, textured look on a garment: over the chest, sleeves and hood it reads as a dry, leafy camouflage rather than a flat print. The grey-beige tones keep it fairly neutral, so it sits well with olive, khaki, brown or a plain dark layer, and the all-over print carries the historical character right across the piece.

This is a pattern with real history – it is one of the classic WWII German camouflage designs still admired for how distinctive and effective the splinter construction looks. Few patterns on the streetwear market can match the angular, hand-printed feel of a true splinter camo. And because this is a lightweight summer piece, you can wear a genuinely historical pattern on the warm days a thick hoodie would be too much.

The garment

This is a lightweight performance hooded tee built for active use outdoors. It is cut from a 94% polyester / 6% spandex blend, so it stretches with you for a modern athletic fit, and the fabric is light, breathable and quick-drying with an odour-resistant finish. The long sleeves and hood give you extra coverage from the sun, and the all-over print runs cleanly across the whole garment.

Made to order, sizing and care

Like every MegaCamo piece, it is printed and sewn only after you place your order, then shipped once fulfilment from our supplier is complete. Allow 4 to 7 days of production before it ships, with transport time on top. It comes in sizes S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL, with a +/-5% tolerance from manual measurement and the print process. To keep it at its best, machine or hand wash, keep the temperature at or below 45°C, do not bleach and do not soak it for long periods.
