Pattern: Austrian Sumpfmuster — Late

This is the late rendition of the Austrian Sumpfmuster, the country’s classic brushstroke-style camouflage. Sumpfmuster — literally ‘swamp pattern’ — has been the working camo of the Austrian Bundesheer since the 1950s, and this later version is the softer, grey-dominant printing of that same leaf-and-rain design.

MegaCamo’s catalogue calls this the Austrian Sumpfmuster Late. On the image the ground is a grey-green, and across it sit soft, rounded leaf-and-bean shapes in olive, warm brown and mid-grey, with fine streaky runs like the herringbone texture of dried grass. The overall read is greyed and muted.

On a long-sleeve shirt the rounded leaf shapes and streaky runs give the print a natural, painterly texture. The late palette is calm and slightly desaturated, so it reads as an earthy, understated woodland camo that is easy to wear and easy to pair. It is classic European brushstroke at its most refined.

Why own it: the late Sumpfmuster is the softer, grey-leaning face of a genuinely iconic Austrian pattern. Its rounded leaf shapes and muted palette give it a quiet, natural elegance that is very different from the harsher woodland camos.

The garment. This is a lightweight long-sleeve hooded T-shirt, printed all over with the pattern you see on the image. It is cut with long sleeves and a hood and fits as a regular, athletic top. The fabric is a 94% polyester / 6% spandex blend, so it stretches with you, feels smooth against the skin and takes the all-over print cleanly. It is a lightweight piece — about 0.374 kg — and runs in sizes S to 3XL.

Fit and size. Because the sizes run S–3XL, pick the one closest to your usual top size; the stretch in the spandex gives a little forgiveness, but for a closer cut take a size down and for a looser, layer-over fit take a size up. The print is applied across the whole garment, so the pattern continues over the chest, arms and hood without a break.

Made to Order. Each shirt is printed and sewn after you place your order. Production and fulfilment take roughly 4 to 7 days before the item ships — that is the time to make and pack it, not the total delivery time, which then depends on transport once it leaves us. It is not sitting on a shelf, and that is what lets us offer patterns that would never be worth stocking.

Care. To protect the print, machine wash at or below 45°C, do not use bleach and avoid prolonged soaking. Launder on a normal cycle with like colours and don’t tumble dry hot. Cold, gentle washing is the best way to keep the colours bright.
