Pattern: GIPN Urban v1 — a warm grey-brown urban mottle
GIPN stands for the Groupe d’Intervention de la Police Nationale, the French national police’s direct-action units, the teams you would find at hostage and counter-terrorism incidents in French cities. The GIPN was folded into the RAID between 2015 and 2019, so the name now carries a specific, slightly vintage weight for anyone who follows European law-enforcement kit. That urban, built-environment environment is exactly the mood of this pattern. MegaCamo labels this rendition “GIPN Urban v1” — it is a catalogue colourway, our way of naming a grey urban disruption, rather than a pattern the unit itself ever issued.
Colour is what makes v1 different from the usual grey camo you may have seen. Look at the shirt and the base is a warm mid grey with a brownish, stony tint rather than a cold steel grey. Over that sit soft, rounded, irregular blobs of dark charcoal-brown and a paler grey-tan. Nothing is digital, nothing is sharp: the shapes are organic and blurred at the edges, closer to a watercolour wash or a printed mottle than to the hard-edged pixel patterns that dominate modern camouflage.
On a lightweight hooded tee that soft, low-contrast read works well. Because the blobs are rounded and muted, the pattern does not shout across a room — it sits as a calm, slightly desaturated urban look that reads more like city clothing than bush or desert camo. On the sleeve and hood the mottle continues without a hard break, and the smooth fabric holds the soft edges cleanly.
Why own this version: the warm, brownish-grey cast is genuinely uncommon. Most grey urban camos run cold and monochrome, so a warm-toned rendition stands apart, and it never looks like a costume. For a person who wants camouflage that is discreet rather than loud — a piece that reads as designed citywear rather than surplus kit — v1 is the quieter, earthier pick of the three GIPN renditions.
The garment. This is a lightweight long-sleeve hooded T-shirt, printed all over with the pattern you can see on the image. It is cut with long sleeves and a hood and fits as a regular, athletic top. The fabric is a 94% polyester / 6% spandex blend, so it stretches with you, sits smooth against the skin and takes the all-over print cleanly. It is a light piece — about 0.374 kg — and runs in sizes S to 3XL.
Fit and size. Because the sizes run S–3XL, pick the one closest to your usual top; the stretch in the spandex gives a little forgiveness, but for a closer cut take a size down and for a looser, layer-over fit take a size up. The print covers the whole garment, so the pattern continues across the chest, arms and hood without a gap.
Made to Order. Each shirt is printed and sewn after you place your order. Production and fulfilment take roughly 4 to 7 days before the item ships — that is the time to make and pack it, not the total delivery time, which then depends on transport once it leaves us. It is not sitting on a shelf, and that is exactly what makes this kind of niche grey urban pattern worth offering at all.
Care. To protect the print, machine wash at or below 45°C, skip the bleach and avoid prolonged soaking. Launder on a normal cycle with like colours and don’t tumble dry hot. Gentle washing keeps the muted greys from picking up a washed-out, hazy cast.
