A dark navy-charcoal ground carries striping in slate and mid-grey, the strokes running in the same long, stepped horizontal bands the family is built on but pushed into a cold blue-grey key. Because the ground is already dark, the lighter slate and grey strokes read as the pattern while the base reads as shadow. There is no olive and no brown in the mix, and the whole surface sits deep and low in value.

Tiger stripe was never an official-issue item of the United States, but it was carried in the field by American personnel who favoured it. Navy SEALs were among the elite units that employed South Vietnamese tiger stripe patterns as operational clothing during the Vietnam War, alongside Army Special Forces and Marine reconnaissance, and the same garments were also worn off duty by personnel further from the fighting. That was a personal and unit-level adoption, never a service pattern. The naval association written into the family’s early history belongs to the Republic of Vietnam Navy, not to the United States Navy, and no United States Navy tiger stripe design was ever issued in its own right. Dark ground, light strokes. On a light sports mesh the navy-charcoal base makes this the deepest reading of the family, and the slate and mid-grey stripes stay crisp against it. The open mesh keeps the dark ground from feeling heavy, and the pale strokes keep the pattern legible instead of letting it disappear.

The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
