Duck hunter is the name applied to patterns built from large, irregular spots or blobs over a solid, usually lighter background. The family’s ancestor is the United States M1942 spot pattern of the Second World War, nicknamed frog skin, issued mainly to troops in the Pacific. That wartime cloth was reversible, with a green-dominant jungle face on one side and a brown-dominant beach face on the other, and production ended in January 1944 before the uniforms were sold on as surplus, the route by which hunters and the nickname duck hunter came to the design.
