Pattern: Australian Red AUSCAM OPFOR Musoria

A pale tan ground with rounded, lobed shapes in rust red, olive-khaki and dark brown. The red-brown elements give the whole print a warm, dusty redness that keeps it clearly apart from a woodland AUSCAM.

The base design is the Australian disruptive pattern nicknamed AUSCAM, developed by the Defence Science and Technology Organisation from aerial photographs of Australian terrain and issued in the early 1980s — the five-colour pattern behind the DPCU uniform, retired from general issue from 2014 with the arrival of a new multi-terrain Australian uniform. Red-shifted versions of it were produced for opposing-force units, recoloured in rust, brown and deep red on tan; sources give its debut as 1987 or the early 1990s, and it left service in 1998. Musoria is the fictional country created by the Australian Army’s 1980 training publication MLW 3-2-2, whose Musorian Armed Forces acted as the Army’s training adversary from 1980 until 2016. MegaCamo’s OPFOR Musoria colourway is a catalogue colourway in that red OPFOR tradition; it is not an official Australian issue.

On mesh the red components give the shirt a warmth that most camouflage prints do not have, so it works with stone, sand and brown as well as with olive. The lobed shapes stay distinct because the mesh keeps the print light.

The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
