Pattern: Australian Desert AUSCAM MKII

A pale ground carrying soft lobed shapes in sage-grey, silver-grey with a faint lilac cast, warm tan and muted brown. The result is very light overall, with the cool greys doing most of the work and the warmer tones only warming the surface.

This is the desert branch of the Australian disruptive pattern. DPDU, the Disruptive Pattern Desert Uniform, keeps the AUSCAM shapes and recolours them for arid ground: it was first tested in 1998 at Woomera, and ran through successive issues — a three-colour Series 1 rushed to the SASR in Afghanistan in 2001, a five-colour Series 2 in 2002, and a general-issue Series 3 approved in 2003 and retired in 2010. The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
