Here is the cooler, greyer side of the Australian camouflage family. The same scattered, bean-shaped pattern you know from AUSCAM, but washed in grey and muted green for the Royal Australian Air Force’s version, known as AFDPU.

About the Australian DPCU and AFDPU

The Australian Disruptive Pattern Camouflage Uniform (AUSCAM) is a five-colour pattern developed for Australia’s dry landscapes, trialled from 1983 and standardised in 1986. It spread across the armed forces, and the Royal Australian Air Force fielded its own grey-leaning rendition, the Air Force DPCU or AFDPU. Both are built from the same small, scattered, rounded shapes, differing mainly in how much grey and how much earth tone is in the palette.

The AFDPU colorway

“AFDPU” is the catalogue label for this greyer rendition: a light grey base carrying grey-green, olive, brown and charcoal spots. Where the army DPCU leans warm tan, this one leans cool grey, so it has a more urban, modern feel while keeping the signature scattered pattern.

How the pattern reads on your hoodie

The grey-dominant palette makes the print calmer and more understated than the tan version, while the small scattered shapes keep it from looking flat. It reads cleanly across the chest, sleeves and hood, and the muted tones sit comfortably against denim and neutral jackets.

Why own this fleece-lined hoodie?

The RAAF grey variant is less common than the army tan, so it offers a point of difference. It is also one of the easiest Australian patterns to wear day-to-day, because the greys and olive blend with almost anything. The printed outer face sits over a soft fleece lining, so the hoodie holds warmth and feels comfortable against the skin. It is a classic pull-over with a drawstring hood, long sleeves and a kangaroo pocket, made from 100% polyester with a comfortable drape.

It runs in sizes S to 5XL, with a +/-5% possible length deviation from manual measurement and production. Care: machine wash cold, do not bleach, do not tumble dry.
