Introduced for RAAF personnel, the GPU is a grey and blue-toned disruptive pattern designed for air-base and general-purpose use rather than bush warfare. This is the Royal Australian Air Force General Purpose Uniform (GPU) pattern. The RAAF GPU colourway is a cool, slate-leaning design.

Why own it: this is a genuine RAAF pattern that is rarely given the same attention as the more famous AUSCAM woodland. The base is a mid grey, and over it sit soft-edged patches of blue-grey, dark slate and a light grey, giving the whole thing a steely, maritime-grey feel. It is understated and technical, and the cool palette works well with jeans and neutral streetwear. Its steel-grey-blue look is distinctive and contemporary, making it an easy-to-wear choice.

The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
