Pattern: US duck hunter frogskin autumn

That original fabric was reversible – one green, summer-style side and one brown, autumn-style side – and both were built from small, soft, leaf- and pebble-like blotches rather than stripes or pixels. “Autumn” is the MegaCamo label for this rendition, and by eye it is the brown, dry side of the frogskin. It is the earthiest of the duck-hunter colourways and the one that suits brown-dominant terrain.

Its best-known form is the M1942 reversible “frog skin”, worn by US Marines in the Pacific. A warm cream-tan field is broken up by mid-brown and khaki blotches with a few soft olive glints, giving it the muted look of dead leaves and bare ground. The warm tones stay cohesive across a large print, and the smooth printed face keeps the edges crisp. The real draw is that this is traceable camouflage history printed on a surface that shows it off.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
