This hoodie is printed with Sumpfmuster, the German “swamp” or “moor” pattern introduced in 1943 and used by the Waffen-SS through the last years of the Second World War. Where other German camos used hard shapes, Sumpfmuster leans on soft, blurred blotches.

About the Sumpfmuster camouflage

Sumpfmuster was developed as a muted, low-contrast pattern that would work in the wet, marshy ground of the eastern and northern fronts. Its shapes are cloud-like and irregular, with feathered or nebulous edges that break up the body rather than sitting as crisp spots. The palette is restrained — browns, tans and olive greens that stay close to earth tones, with no bright accent colour.

The 43 colorway

The “43” refers to the pattern’s 1943 introduction. This rendition keeps the classic muted grey-green, tan and brown colourway. Because there is no strong contrast, the pattern reads as soft and hazy from a distance, which was exactly the point — it was meant to disappear, not to announce itself.
