Pattern: French Lizard B1

A pale beige ground with sparse slanted strokes in grey-green and dusty rose. It is the quietest of the lizard colourways, closer to a faded earth tone than to a green jungle print.

Lizard — camouflage léopard in French — is the brushstroke camouflage developed from the British Denison smock: worn by the French Army from 1947 to the late 1980s, collector-known as TAP 47, and produced in a long series of dye lots that all differ slightly. The pattern relies on printed strokes that leave gaps of the dyed base colour showing through, which is what produces the family’s characteristic layered look. B1 is one of the collector codes for those prints, and it describes a pale, low-contrast colourway rather than an official French Army pattern.

The B1 palette is subtle enough to be worn as a light neutral shirt, with the grey-green and rose strokes adding texture rather than colour. It pairs easily with stone, sand, pale denim and off-white.

The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
