About the pattern

The Netherlands Fractal Pattern (NFP) is the modern camouflage developed for the Dutch military, first prototyped in 2009 and intended to replace the British-derived DPM. Camopedia records the initial release as three versions: NFP Green (temperate/woodland), NFP Tan (arid/desert), and NFP-Multi (transitional). This render is the Green, the temperate colourway meant for woodland and temperate environments. Like the rest of the family it uses purely organic, irregular spot shapes and no square or pixel elements, giving it a natural, broken-up appearance rather than a digital one.

The base is a muted olive-green, and over it sit dense, irregular organic shapes in a darker green, a brown, a tan-khaki and a softer grey-green. Every shape is soft and irregular, with no straight edges, no squares and no pixel cells. The mix of greens, browns and the occasional tan creates a woodland palette that is deep and broken, with a lot of fine detail across the surface. The overall cast is green-forward and earthy, made for blending into temperate vegetation.

How it reads on the garment

Because the shapes are small, dense and organic, this pattern prints with a rich, textured feel rather than a bold graphic one. Up close you can read the individual irregular blobs; at a distance they merge into a deep green-and-brown woodland field. It reads as a classic modern woodland with a natural, painterly quality, and it does not have the hard, blocky look of a pixelated camo. The muted ground sits well against the light hood lining and collar, keeping the neckline neat.
