About the pattern

The Netherlands Fractal Pattern (NFP) is the modern camouflage developed for the Dutch military, first prototyped in 2009. Camopedia records that the initial release included three versions: NFP Green (temperate/woodland), NFP Tan (arid/desert), and NFP-Multi (transitional). This render is the Tan, the arid colourway designed for dry and desert environments. Like the rest of the NFP family it uses purely organic, irregular spot shapes and no square or pixel elements — a departure from the pixelated digitals that became common elsewhere.

The base is a warm tan-sand, and over it sit dense, irregular organic shapes in a tan-brown, a khaki and a muted green. The green is more subdued than in the transitional or green versions, so the overall cast leans warm and sandy. Every shape is soft and organic, with no straight edges, no squares and no pixel cells. The mix of tan, brown and khaki gives it a desert feel, while the muted green keeps it from being a flat two-tone. There is a lot of fine detail packed across the surface.

How it reads on the garment

Because the palette is warm and sandy with a green undertone, this pattern prints with a bright, natural feel rather than a heavy one. On the body the tan ground dominates, with the brown, khaki and muted-green organic shapes breaking it up in a busy, textured rhythm. It reads as a modern arid camo that is warm and wearable, with a mottled, organic quality rather than a hard digital one. The warm ground blends cleanly into the light hood lining and collar, keeping the neckline neat.
