About the pattern

It was only in 1991 that the Dutch Army finally adopted camouflage for general issue, and Camopedia records that the pattern chosen was simply a locally-produced copy of the British Disruptive Pattern Material (DPM). The Koninklijke Landmacht introduced its own version in 1993 after a series of trials, and Camopedia notes it consists of black, chocolate-brown and olive-green disruptive shapes on a yellowish-tan background, distinguishable from most British versions by its slightly different colouring and cut. This render is that Dutch DPM, a faithful but distinct take on the world-famous British pattern.

This Dutch DPM colourway

The base is a yellowish-tan, and over it sit the classic DPM disruptive shapes — large, irregular organic blobs with rounded, broken edges — in a chocolate-brown, an olive-green and scattered black accents. The shapes are dense and overlap, giving the pattern the busy, broken-up character that defines DPM. The green and brown sit against the sand ground, with the black providing contrast. It reads as a warm, earthy woodland that is instantly recognisable as DPM, but with its own Dutch colouring.

How it reads on the garment

Because the shapes are large, dense and organic, this pattern prints with a full, earthy feel. On the body the green and brown blobs break up the silhouette in the classic DPM rhythm, with the sand-tan ground showing through and the black accents adding depth. It reads as a true woodland DPM, earthy and convincing at any distance. The warm ground sits well against the light hood lining and collar, keeping the neckline neat.

There is a reason DPM is one of the most widely recognised camouflage patterns ever made, and the Dutch version gives you that famous look with a slightly different, warmer colouring.
