About the pattern

The Boorduniform (“Board Uniform”) is the camouflage of the Koninklijke Marine, the Royal Netherlands Navy. Camopedia records that at the end of 2019 the Ministry of Defense announced the Navy would adopt its own version of the Netherlands Fractal Pattern (NFP) towards the end of 2020, with full implementation to be achieved by the end of 2024. The Boorduniform is simply a re-coloration of the NFP design, keeping the same organic, irregular shapes but in a blue palette for a maritime environment. This render is that navy blue fractal.

This Boorduniform colourway

The base is a mid blue, cool and maritime, and over it sit dense, irregular organic shapes in a lighter blue, a deeper navy and a paler grey-blue. The shapes are soft and organic with no straight edges, no squares and no pixel cells — the same organic density as the rest of the NFP family, just recast in blue. The mix of light, mid and deep blue gives the pattern a watery, layered feel. There is a lot of fine detail across the surface, and it reads as a blue version of the Dutch fractal.

How it reads on the garment

Because the palette is a cool maritime blue, this pattern prints with a clean, aquatic feel rather than an earthy one. On the body the mid-blue ground sits behind the lighter and darker blue organic shapes, giving the surface a mottled, watery rhythm. It is one of the few genuinely blue camouflages, and it stands out clearly against the sea of green and brown. The muted blue blends well with the light hood lining and collar, keeping the neckline tidy.
