Pattern: French BME — Bariolage Multi-Environnement
BME stands for the Bariolage Multi-Environnement, the new multi-environment camouflage of the French Army. It was formally announced in 2022 and has been rolling out from around 2024 as the replacement for the older Centre Europe and desert patterns — so this is genuinely the current and future face of French military camouflage, not a historical design. Multi-environment means exactly what it sounds like: a single pattern engineered to work across woodland, arid, and mixed terrain rather than being tailored to one climate, which is why the design sits in the same broad family as the modern multi-terrain disruptions now common across NATO forces.
Look at the shirt and you can see that multi-terrain logic. The ground is a warm tan and khaki, and over it sit irregular, slightly blurred blotches of olive green, warm brown and cream, together with a few thin, vertical, twig-like strokes that give the pattern a suggestion of standing vegetation and branches. The shapes are soft and organic rather than pixelated, and the whole thing is built to break up the silhouette in a lot of different backdrops at once. It is a busy, layered, modern camouflage — the kind you would recognise as current-generation rather than vintage.
On a lightweight hooded tee that layered tan-and-green look reads very well. The warm base keeps it from being dull, while the green and brown blotches and the thin twig accents give it movement across the chest, arms and hood as part of a continuous all-over print. It is a current, battle-tested-looking design with the soft detail that a smooth fabric shows off cleanly.
Why own this version: this is the pattern the French Army is moving to, so it has an immediate “current” appeal — a modern multi-environment design rather than a reprint of a classic. It is also simply a good-looking, multi-terrain camouflage: the tan-and-green palette is versatile and not as harsh as a pure desert or pure woodland. If you want today’s French camouflage on a wearable hooded tee, BME is it.
The garment. This is a lightweight long-sleeve hooded T-shirt, printed all over with the pattern you can see on the image. It is cut with long sleeves and a hood and fits as a regular, athletic top. The fabric is a 94% polyester / 6% spandex blend, so it stretches with you, sits smooth against the skin and takes the all-over print cleanly. It is a light piece — about 0.374 kg — and runs in sizes S to 3XL.
Fit and size. Because the sizes run S–3XL, pick the one closest to your usual top; the stretch in the spandex gives a little forgiveness, but for a closer cut take a size down and for a looser, layer-over fit take a size up. The print covers the whole garment, so the pattern continues across the chest, arms and hood without a gap.
Made to Order. Each shirt is printed and sewn after you place your order. Production and fulfilment take roughly 4 to 7 days before the item ships — that is the time to make and pack it, not the total delivery time, which then depends on transport once it leaves us. It is not sitting on a shelf, and that is what allows a current pattern like BME to be offered alongside the historical set.
Care. To protect the print, machine wash at or below 45°C, skip the bleach and avoid prolonged soaking. Launder on a normal cycle with like colours and don’t tumble dry hot. Gentle washing keeps the tan and green tones from muddying together.
