Pattern: USN NWUPAT

A blue and grey digital print: blocks of navy blue and slate grey on a pale grey ground, at a fairly large pixel scale. It reads as a distinctly naval blue, and the greys keep it from turning into a flat royal blue.

The pattern is the one worn by the US Navy Working Uniform Type I — designed in late 2004, issued in limited quantities from late 2008, and in use for most Navy working uniforms by late 2010. It uses a recoloration of the Army’s UCP; unlike a land camouflage it was never meant to conceal people but to disguise paint and oil soiling, which earned it the nickname blueberries. It was fully retired in 2019, replaced by NWU Type III. NWUPAT is not the official name of the pattern — the documented names are Navy Working Uniform and NWU Type I — and MegaCamo uses NWUPAT as its catalogue label for this colourway.

The shirt itself

This is the T45 sports mesh t-shirt: 100% polyester mesh cloth at 7.05 oz, with a relaxed fit and a soft hand that keeps it comfortable from the first wear. It weighs about 0.19 kg, so it stays light on the shoulders even in the larger sizes.

The mesh is open enough to move air and dry quickly, and the double-needle hemmed sleeves and bottom hold their shape instead of fraying. The print sits in the fabric and is made not to fade, so the camouflage stays as sharp as the day it was made.
