Pattern: French Lizard A1

This lightweight hooded tee is printed with the French lizard camouflage – the wavy, brush-drawn pattern that traces its roots to the British Denison smock of the Second World War and was adopted by French airborne units in the late 1940s as the TAP47 pattern. It is one of the most recognisable mid-century European camos, and “A1” is the MegaCamo label for this particular catalogue version.

The lizard look

By eye the pattern is a pale khaki or grey-green ground carrying thick, wavy olive-green and brown strokes that ripple across the surface like streaks of paint. The strokes run in soft, curving bands rather than hard-edged blobs, which is what gives the family its “lizard” or “leopard” nickname – a pattern that looks organic and hand-drawn rather than mechanical.

How it reads on this tee

Because the strokes are broad and flowing, the pattern holds its shape well on a garment: across the chest and down the sleeves it reads as a confident, painterly camo rather than a mass of small detail. The khaki base keeps it relatively neutral, so it pairs naturally with olive, brown or plain tones, and it looks just as at home with a denim jacket as it does on its own.

Made to order, sizing and care

Like every MegaCamo piece, it is printed and sewn only after you place your order, then shipped once fulfilment from our supplier is complete. Allow 4 to 7 days of production before it ships, with transport time on top. It comes in sizes S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL, with a +/-5% tolerance from manual measurement and the print process. To keep it at its best, machine or hand wash, keep the temperature at or below 45°C, do not bleach and do not soak it for long periods.
