About the pattern

The US M81 woodland shape has been copied all over the world, and Iran is no exception — Camopedia records several Iranian copies and variants used by the Army and IRGC since the 1980s, and notes that these vary not only in the shades of dye used but occasionally in the alignment of the printing screens. Where the standard M81 runs green, brown, tan and black, this v2 render takes the same familiar woodland structure and irregular blotches and recasts them in a distinctly cool, muted palette. It is a highly unusual take on a world-famous pattern.

This M81 v2 colourway

The base is a pale cream, and over it sit the classic M81 woodland shapes in a muted teal or blue-green, a rust-brown and darker charcoal-brown accents. The teal is the stand-out element — it replaces the usual forest green with a cooler, more desaturated tone, while the rust-brown adds a warm contrast that keeps the whole thing from feeling cold. There is no bright green in this render. The shapes are still unmistakably M81, but the colouring gives it a slightly faded, almost vintage look that sets it clearly apart from v1.

How it reads on the garment

Because of the cool teal and cream palette, this pattern prints with a lighter, more muted feel than a saturated woodland. On the body the cream ground sits behind the teal and rust blotches, giving the surface a soft, slightly faded rhythm.
