About the pattern

The Netherlands Fractal Pattern (NFP) is the Dutch military’s own modern camouflage, developed from 2008 and released in prototype form in 2009. Camopedia records that it was developed to replace the British-derived DPM, and that three versions were released: a temperate/woodland version (NFP Green), an arid/desert version (NFP Tan), and a so-called “transitional” design (NFP-Multi) intended for implementation on field equipment. This render is that transitional colourway, built to sit between the green woodland and the tan desert. The design uses purely organic, irregular spot shapes and no square or pixel elements.

The base is a warm tan, and over it sit dense, irregular organic shapes in a dark green, a mid olive-green, a brown and a paler khaki. There are no straight edges, no squares and no pixel cells — every shape is soft and organic, flowing into the next with irregular, ragged boundaries. The mix of green and tan is what makes it “transitional”: it leans neither fully woodland nor fully desert, and instead blends the two. The overall cast is warm and dense, with a lot of fine detail across the surface.

How it reads on the garment

Because the shapes are small, dense and organic, this pattern prints with a busy, textured feel rather than a bold, graphic one. Up close you can read the individual irregular blobs; at a distance they merge into a rich green-and-tan field. It is a very “natural” looking camo, with a mottled, almost painterly quality. The warm tone sits well against the light hood lining and collar, keeping the neckline neat.
