About the pattern

ERDL (Engineer Research and Development Laboratory) is an early US woodland camouflage developed in the 1940s-60s, built from a distinctive pattern of large, soft organic shapes in green, brown, grey and black on a tan ground. It was the predecessor to the later M81 woodland and was widely copied and worn around the world. This Afghan NDS (National Directorate of Security)-associated render is an ERDL-style woodland in a warm, grey-toned colourway. It is a distinctive, collectible variant of the ERDL family.

The ground is a warm olive-tan, and over it sit large, soft, organic shapes in a grey-brown, a green, a dark grey and a lighter tan. The shapes are irregular and amoeba-like, with rounded, broken edges, and they overlap to break up the surface. The palette is warm and muted — olive-tan, grey-brown, green and dark grey — giving the pattern a soft, natural woodland look. The dark grey and brown shapes provide the contrast, and the warm ground shows through between them.

How it reads on the garment

Because the shapes are large and soft, this pattern prints with a natural, mottled woodland feel. On the body the warm olive-tan ground sits behind the grey-brown, green and dark grey shapes, giving the surface a soft, organic texture. It reads as a classic ERDL-style woodland, warm and natural.
