About the pattern

Xingkong (星空) means “starry sky,” and it is the camouflage the Chinese People’s Liberation Army adopted in 2019 across every branch. It succeeded the Type 07 digital family and moved the entire force onto a common set of designs, removing the old branch-specific palettes in favour of shared colourways.

The design is built differently from a classic digital. Rather than blocky pixel squares, Xingkong scatters a fine layer of tiny digital granules (“stars”) under soft, irregular cloud-like bands. That softer construction gives it better concealment as viewing distance changes, because the edges blur rather than snap. It debuted publicly in September 2019 at the 70th anniversary of the PRC and is issued with the Type 19 and Type 21 uniform series. It is a real, current national-issue pattern with a documented story.

This Arid Woodland colorway

This is the most “both worlds” Xingkong rendition. The ground is a muted sage-green, and the cloud masses mix olive and grey-green with warm tan, brown and darker charcoal patches. It is not a pure green and not a pure desert — it balances the green base with arid, earthy accents. “Arid Woodland” is a MegaCamo colourway label; the issued family came in five standard schemes (urban, woodland, jungle, desert and tundra), and this one sits in the versatile middle, blending the woodland and arid ideas.

How it reads on the garment

On a long-sleeve hooded tee, the green-and-tan field looks like a natural, slightly muted scrubland print rather than a bold military block pattern. The fine star granulation gives the surface a matte, organic texture that a flat print would not have. The light hood and collar drop out against the sage-green base, and the warm brown accents catch the eye just enough to stop the torso from reading as a single green slab. It works with olive, brown, tan, black and denim alike, which makes it a genuinely flexible daily pattern.

It is cut from a stretch 94% polyester / 6% spandex blend that moves with you and holds its shape, with a comfortable regular fit and sizes from S to 3XL. It weighs about 0.374 kg, so it packs small and layers easily under a jacket or a fleece in cooler weather.

Disclosure

This is a reproduction / military-inspired item, not issued Chinese uniform kit. The 2019 adoption and Type 19 / Type 21 fielding are documented pattern history, but the garment itself is a modern printed reproduction for everyday wear.
