About the pattern

The CE (Central Europe) woodland is a French brushstroke camouflage, built from broad, diagonal strokes in a few colours, widely worn by former French colonies including Gabon. Camopedia records that the Gabonese family of CE woodland came in several colourways: the earliest arid version had dark brown and olive-green shapes on a sandy background, observed with the Garde Républicaine. It also notes the Garde wears a desert/semi-arid pattern adopted in 2015. This render is a warm, arid CE woodland brushstroke in the Garde Républicaine colourway.

The ground is a pale sandy grey-tan, and over it sit broad, diagonal brushstroke shapes in a dark brown, an olive-green and a teal-grey, with feathered, brush-drawn edges. The strokes run diagonally and overlap to break up the surface. The palette is warm and arid — sandy grey-tan, dark brown, olive-green and teal-grey — giving the pattern a dry, natural look. The feathered edges give it the characteristic brushstroke texture of the CE woodland family.

How it reads on the garment

Because the strokes are broad and the palette is warm and arid, this pattern prints with a soft, broken, natural feel. On the body the sandy ground sits behind the brown, olive and teal-grey brushstrokes, giving the surface a feathered, organic texture. It reads as a warm arid CE woodland, natural and easy to wear.
