AUSCAM DPNU Dark Lightweight Hooded T-Shirt

Pattern: Australian DPNU — Royal Australian Navy disruptives (Dark)

DPNU — the Disruptive Pattern Navy Uniform — is the camouflage issued to the Royal Australian Navy from 2008. It is a colour-shifted version of the Australian disruptives, recoloured for a naval and shore environment rather than the bush. Before the pattern was standard, the RAN had used a plain uniform; DPNU gave sailors a working disruptive pattern for shipboard and shore tasks.

This Dark rendition of DPNU is built on a mid-grey-greige base. The soft-rounded AUSCAM lobate shapes are filled with a dark grey, a deep olive-green and a near-black, keeping the pattern cool, muted and low-contrast. It is the darker, more moody end of the RAN disruptives.

On a hooded long-sleeve shirt this reads as a cool, understated grey-green camo. It is subdued and easy to wear, and the greys and dark olive sit well with denim and neutral layers.

Why own it: this is a genuine Royal Australian Navy pattern with a distinct naval identity. Its dark grey-olive read is a nice alternative to the brighter green AUSCAM woodland, and it is a real piece of Australian maritime military-issue history.

The garment. This is a lightweight long-sleeve hooded T-shirt, printed all over with the pattern you see on the image. It is cut with long sleeves and a hood and fits as a regular, athletic top. The fabric is a 94% polyester / 6% spandex blend, so it stretches with you, feels smooth against the skin and takes the all-over print cleanly. It is a lightweight piece — about 0.374 kg — and runs in sizes S to 3XL.

Fit and size. Because the sizes run S–3XL, pick the one closest to your usual top size; the stretch in the spandex gives a little forgiveness, but for a closer cut take a size down and for a looser, layer-over fit take a size up. The print is applied across the whole garment, so the pattern continues over the chest, arms and hood without a break.

Made to Order. Each shirt is printed and sewn after you place your order. Production and fulfilment take roughly 4 to 7 days before the item ships — that is the time to make and pack it, not the total delivery time, which then depends on transport once it leaves us. It is not sitting on a shelf, and that is what lets us offer patterns that would never be worth stocking.

Care. To protect the print, machine wash at or below 45°C, do not use bleach and avoid prolonged soaking. Launder on a normal cycle with like colours and don’t tumble dry hot. Cold, gentle washing is the best way to keep the colours bright.
