CADPAT, short for Canadian Disruptive Pattern (dessin de camouflage canadien), is the computer-generated digital pattern developed for the Canadian Armed Forces. It is widely credited as the first digital camouflage pattern to be used operationally: issued from 1997 and made standard across the Canadian Forces by 2002, it retired the older olive-drab combat clothing that had served for decades. Where earlier camouflage used soft blobs and brushstrokes, CADPAT was built from small, blocky pixel shapes — a look that would go on to influence a whole generation of digital patterns, including the US Marine Corps MARPAT.

The Desert / Arid reading in this sheet

The Canadian Forces field several CADPAT variants — temperate woodland, arid regions, winter operations and multi-terrain. This sheet targets the arid, dry-terrain side, introduced for desert work and seen on Canadian troops serving in Afghanistan. In this rendition the familiar greens step aside for warm sand, tan and khaki. “Desert v2” is the MegaCamo label for this particular tan digital build: a pale sand base broken up by clusters of grey-brown and khaki pixel spots that blur the outline against dry ground.
