About the pattern

India’s standard camouflage is called Disruptive Pattern Material, or DPM, but Camopedia is careful to note it has no relationship to the British design of the same name. It is an overlapping pattern of green and brown palm-leaf shapes on a khaki background, with tremendous variability from very light to very dark. The “PC” designation refers to peacekeeping forces, and PC DPM carries the crossed-sword logo of the Indian Army imprinted into the pattern. The base is a tan-khaki, and over it sit broad, overlapping shapes in a green, a warm brown and a paler tan, with scattered black accents adding hard contrast. The palm-leaf shapes are irregular and organic, though the leaves here are broad and blocky rather than finely feathered. The green and brown sit against the khaki ground, with the black breaking them up. The overall cast is warm and earthy, with a clear, readable contrast that gives the pattern a strong, almost graphic presence.

How it reads on the garment

Because the shapes are broad and the black adds strong contrast, this pattern prints with a defined, graphic feel rather than a soft one. On the body the green and brown palm-leaf shapes break up the silhouette clearly, with the khaki ground showing through and the black accents adding depth. It reads as a classic, recognisable Indian DPM, warm and convincing at any distance. The warm ground sits well against the light hood lining and collar, keeping the neckline neat.
