About the pattern

In the mid-1970s the Republic of Korea Marine Corps retired its older duck-hunter spot camouflage and introduced a design that reference sources and servicemen nicknamed “leopard,” “jigsaw” or “puzzle”. Its calling card is the fitting-together geometry: interlocked, irregular masses that behave like jigsaw pieces while echoing the markings of a spotted cat. The pattern was seen at the 1975 Armed Forces Parade and had been replaced by around 1977, so it enjoyed only a brief official run. Reference material (Camopedia) also records limited use with ROK Navy SEAL units, which accounts for the “Navy SEAL” label on this range.

This v3 colorway

v3 is the most distinctive of the family and the most unexpected. The pale ground is a soft cream; over it sit muted sage-green shapes and a cool slate-blue secondary that leans toward denim and steel. There is no brown or warm khaki in this render at all, which is what separates it from the other two: it is a deliberately cool-toned interpretation, blue-grey rather than earth-toned. On a garment the effect is clean and slightly modern — more “worn blue workwear meets a 1970s pattern” than traditional woodland.

How it reads on the garment

Because the blue-grey reads so cool and the pale ground is broad, v3 prints with a crisp, airy rhythm. On the body the connected jigsaw masses still break up the silhouette well, but the overall impression is lighter and neater than a dark woodland, and the slate-blue helps the print pick up a subtle denim-like depth. The light-grey hood lining and collar blend straight into the pale field, leaving a clean, uncluttered neckline.

Why own it

This is the colourway that gets the most double-takes, because a cool blue-grey camo is far less common than the endless parade of green and brown patterns. If you already own a standard woodland or a green jigsaw, v3 gives you a genuinely different piece — one with the same scarce 1970s ROK Marine provenance and Navy SEAL footnote, but in a palette that pairs beautifully with blue denim, grey, black and white. It is the variant that makes a rare pattern feel contemporary rather than purely historical.
