Pattern: Six-Colour Desert “chocolate chip” — a monochrome urban colourway

This lightweight long-sleeve hooded tee takes the familiar chocolate-chip construction and strips it to black, grey and white. The broad soft-edged blotches come in slate-grey and near-black, the ground is a clean off-white and pale grey, and the little scattered specks that define the family run through in black. Every structural element of the six-colour desert is here; the palette simply has the colour switched for a monochrome, built around contrast rather than hue.

The family is the United States Six-Colour Desert, called Chocolate Chip or Cookie Dough because the small dark flecks dotting the field look like chips in cookie dough. The US standardized it for the Desert Battle Dress Uniform from the early 1980s, and it was widely copied, notably by Saudi Arabia and, from around 1993, the United Arab Emirates. This rendition is a MegaCamo colourway — the “Urban” label in the catalogue — a black-and-white reading of the same pattern rather than an official issued variant.

How it reads on the garment

In monochrome the print reads far more graphic. The black specks and grey blotches stand out against the light ground, giving a high-contrast, almost sketched look that carries a lot of energy at arm’s length. It is a louder, more fashion-forward take than a traditional tan desert, and on the hood and sleeves the contrast moves cleanly around the body.
