Pattern: French Lizard D tropical — a pale mauve-and-sage brushstroke
Here the French lizard family is pulled toward the pale and cool. The base is a light greige with a blush-pink cast, and across it run brushstrokes in a muted mauve-brown, a soft sage green and a gentle grey. The whole pattern is low-contrast and washed out, giving the shirt a faded, almost sun-bleached look rather than a strong military read.
MegaCamo lists this as the D tropical. It belongs to the French léopard family — the brushstroke camouflage born of the British Denison smock and worn by the French Army from 1947 into the late 1980s, known to collectors as TAP 47. The family was issued in many dye lots and fabric weights over roughly a decade, all simultaneously, so a lighter, paler “tropical” interpretation is faithful to the breadth of the original production rather than a modern invention. That is precisely what this sheet represents: a lighter take on the classic lizard read.
The D tropical’s character is its lightness. Where the A2 and D stay warm and saturated, this one drops the contrast and lifts the whole palette, so the mauve and sage strokes read as soft washes over the pale base. On the garment it has a gentle, romantic quality — more sun-faded canvas than sharp woodland — and it pairs beautifully with whites, creams, light greys and pale denim. It is a camo for people who like the idea but want something subtle.
Why own it
If you are drawn to the French lizard family but find the darker green-and-red versions too loud, the D tropical is the counterpoint: all the history and the flowing brushstroke structure, rendered pale and gentle. For a collector it shows how far the family could shift between dye lots, and for a daily wearer it is one of the most wearable camos in the catalogue because the low contrast never dominates an outfit. It also gives a nice contrast in a set of lizard shirts.
Fit, fabric and care
This is a long-sleeve lightweight hooded tee in a 94% polyester / 6% spandex blend — stretchy, smooth and light. It is available in S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL and weighs 0.374 kg. Because it is made to order, allow a small production tolerance of about ±5% and check the size chart before choosing. Wash at or below 45 °C, skip the bleach, and avoid prolonged soaking.
Made to order
This tee is printed all-over and sewn after you order it, so there is a production and fulfilment period of roughly 4–7 days before shipping; final delivery depends on your location. The pattern wraps the entire garment rather than sitting in one print block.
Part of the collection
This D tropical is one of several French Lizard sheets in the catalogue, joining the A2, B1, C1, D, E1 and F1 variants. If the pale, washed direction suits you, keep exploring the wider French camouflage range — the CCE woodland and Daguet desert sheets offer a different side of the same national story.
