About the pattern

Splittertarn (splinter pattern) is one of the most distinctive German camouflage families, defined by angular, splintered shapes overlaid with fine “rain streaks”. The Wehrmacht used the Splittertarn 31, and there were various wartime iterations. Camopedia records the design descended from First World War-era German work. This “41 v2” render is a grey-green splinter pattern, with brown and grey splintered shapes and rain streaks on a pale grey-green field. It is a distinct colourway of the German splinter family.

The ground is a pale grey-green, and over it sit angular, splintered shapes in a brown, a grey, a grey-green and a darker charcoal-green, all overlaid with fine rain streaks. The splinters are sharp and fragmented, with straight edges and angular corners. The palette is cool and muted — grey-green, brown, grey and charcoal — so the pattern reads as a subdued, grey-toned splinter. The rain streaks cut thinly across the surface, adding the signature wet, streaky texture.

Because the shapes are angular and the palette is muted, this pattern prints with a soft, broken feel rather than a bold one.
