About the pattern

Xingkong (星空) translates as “starry sky,” and it is the camouflage the Chinese People’s Liberation Army adopted in 2019 across every service branch. It succeeded the Type 07 digital family and, notably, brought all branches onto a shared set of designs rather than giving each its own palette — a genuine shift from the previous generation.

The construction is distinctive. Where Type 07 used blocky pixel squares, Xingkong scatters a very fine layer of tiny digital granules (“stars”) under soft, irregular cloud-like masses. Those softer bands blur the outline as distance changes, which is what gives the pattern its better multi-range concealment. It debuted publicly in September 2019 at the 70th anniversary of the PRC and is fielded with the Type 19 and Type 21 uniforms. This is a documented, current national-issue design — not a fabricated catalogue print.

This Desert colorway

This is the genuinely warm Xingkong rendition. The base is a soft cream or sand, and the mottled clouds run to light tan, ochre and warm grey-brown, with almost no green anywhere. It reads unmistakably as a desert palette. For clarity: “Desert” is a MegaCamo colourway label, and the issued family came in five standard schemes (urban, woodland, jungle, desert and tundra) — this is the sandy one.

How it reads on the garment

On a long-sleeve hooded tee the warm sand field looks like a sun-bleached terrain print rather than a “tactical” desert brick. The fine star granules lift the surface with a matte, textured rhythm, so it never reads as a flat tan tee. The light hood and collar blend into the cream base nicely, leaving a clean neckline, and from a short distance the soft masses break the silhouette the way a true desert pattern should. Worn against denim or olive it holds a warm, earthy contrast.

Why own it

If you want a modern military pattern that actually belongs in warm, arid settings — and that many people will not immediately name — this is a strong pick. It is more refined than the oversaturated desert digitals of the 2000s and works as everyday civilian wear as easily as it would on a spring or autumn outing. For collectors it is a current PLA design with a genuinely different construction from the pixel-block era. It is the warm counterpart to the paler Arid version, so if you collect the family it is a real addition, not a repeat.

It is cut from a stretch 94% polyester / 6% spandex blend that moves with you and holds its shape, with a comfortable regular fit and sizes from S to 3XL. Disclosure

This is a reproduction / military-inspired item, not issued Chinese uniform kit.
