About the pattern

Although Indonesia produced its own distinctive patterns, the Indonesian Armed Forces standardised on a British-style Disruptive Pattern Material in the 1980s. Camopedia records that in 1984, Indonesian Army General Benny Moerdani ordered the entire Armed Forces to standardise on a British-style DPM, rendering all previous military patterns obsolete. The original or First Pattern DPM print was a close copy of 1970s-era British tropical DPM, and it was issued to Indonesian forces. This render is that Indonesian DPM, a saturated tropical take on the world-famous British design.

The base is a tan-khaki, and over it sit the classic DPM disruptive shapes — large, irregular organic blobs with rounded, broken edges — in a bright, saturated green, a chocolate-brown and scattered dark accents. The green here is notably brighter and more tropical than in the British DPM, giving it a lively, saturated look. The brown and green sit against the tan ground, with the dark accents adding depth. It reads as a warm, vivid woodland that is instantly recognisable as DPM but with a distinctively Indonesian brightness.

How it reads on the garment

Because the green is bright and the shapes are large, this pattern prints with a lively, saturated feel. On the body the green and brown blobs break up the silhouette in the classic DPM rhythm, with the tan ground showing through. It reads as a true tropical woodland DPM, vivid and convincing at any distance. The warm ground sits well against the light hood lining and collar, keeping the neckline neat.
