Pattern: Australian DPCU (Auscam) — Disruptive Pattern Camouflage Uniform
DPCU — Disruptive Pattern Camouflage Uniform, nicknamed Auscam, jelly-bean or hearts-and-bunnies camo — is the five-colour pattern that equipped the Australian Defence Force for decades. It was developed and tested through the late 1970s and early 1980s, introduced by 1989, and was the standard Australian uniform until it began to be phased out in the 2020s.
The DPCU colourway is a lively, terrestrial mix. The base is a pale khaki-green, and over it sit soft rounded shapes of olive-green, rust-orange, brown, and a darker green. The shapes are small, rounded and packed together, which is why the pattern earned its “jelly-bean” nickname.
On a long-sleeve hooded shirt the rounded DPCU shapes read as a cheerful, organic woodland camo. It is bright and busy at close range but settles into a natural green-and-orange dapple at distance — a genuinely distinctive look.
Why own it: DPCU is the classic Australian camo, with a distinctive five-colour palette and a famous nickname. It is a real national pattern that many recognise, and its orange-and-green mix makes it stand apart from the usual brown-and-green woodlands.
The garment. This is a lightweight long-sleeve hooded T-shirt, printed all over with the pattern you see on the image. It is cut with long sleeves and a hood and fits as a regular, athletic top. The fabric is a 94% polyester / 6% spandex blend, so it stretches with you, feels smooth against the skin and takes the all-over print cleanly. It is a lightweight piece — about 0.374 kg — and runs in sizes S to 3XL.
Fit and size. Because the sizes run S–3XL, pick the one closest to your usual top size; the stretch in the spandex gives a little forgiveness, but for a closer cut take a size down and for a looser, layer-over fit take a size up. The print is applied across the whole garment, so the pattern continues over the chest, arms and hood without a break.
Made to Order. Each shirt is printed and sewn after you place your order. Production and fulfilment take roughly 4 to 7 days before the item ships — that is the time to make and pack it, not the total delivery time, which then depends on transport once it leaves us. It is not sitting on a shelf, and that is what lets us offer patterns that would never be worth stocking.
Care. To protect the print, machine wash at or below 45°C, do not use bleach and avoid prolonged soaking. Launder on a normal cycle with like colours and don’t tumble dry hot. Cold, gentle washing is the best way to keep the colours bright.
